Now available to all Phoenix users, our team has just released a brand-new feature – Toolbox Talks. Find out what it can do, the benefits, and more, below.
What is a Toolbox Talk?
As defined by the HSE, a toolbox talk is a short presentation to the workforce on a single aspect of health and safety. This allows you and your team to explore the risks and safety issues specific to your work site. They can cover a range of topics, including:
– Health hazards, i.e. what can happen after inhaling asbestos fibres.
– Site management, e.g. ensuring operatives have reviewed asbestos removal methods before starting tasks.
– PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and protocols, such as the proper use of masks/respirators.
What Can the New Feature Do?
With Toolbox Talks, companies on the system are now able to upload a library of their own, pre-prepared presentations to the app that the supervisor or designated person can quickly deliver to their team on-site. Upon completion, a digital report will be generated automatically, which all members can sign easily.
If someone isn’t present, they can simply be removed from the list. Once completed, everything is stored in the app and can be downloaded using the desktop version back in the office.
What is the Purpose of Toolbox Talks?
– Raise Health & Safety Standards: Keeping health and safety top of mind, toolbox talks refresh and/or expand on previous knowledge from full asbestos training courses to ensure your team remembers the key risks before beginning work on-site.
– Increase skills knowledge around asbestos remedial tasks: Designed to be regular, quick refreshers (around 5-10 minutes) on a single asbestos subject, toolbox talks help your team retain information better before carrying out a specific task with asbestos that day, being exposed to a certain material/hazard, or working with specialist equipment.
– Reduce the Risk of Accidents On-Site: Creating a positive health and safety culture, starting each day with a quick, focused briefing is likely to reinforce health & safety awareness amongst operatives, and therefore, prevent complacency that leads to accidents.
What are the Benefits of Toolbox Talks?
– Everything is Now in One Place: Allowing for seamless integration, you can now store all of your important asbestos documentation and resources (including your toolbox talks) in our site management app.
– Creates a Positive Health & Safety Culture: Often, health & safety briefings encourage worker participation to keep the presentation interactive and engaging. When workers share their own experiences or raise safety concerns/questions, this strengthens the overall health & safety awareness and culture on-site.
– No More Missing Out Important Information: If your team is in a rush to start work, this can lead to urgency and complacency, meaning key health & safety information and standard procedures can be forgotten. With a library of pre-prepared talks, supervisors won’t have to worry about compiling the correct information on the spot.
– Paperless Record-Keeping: In the asbestos industry, employee health records must be stored for a minimum of 40 years. Say goodbye to bulky, unnecessary binders of paperwork that need regular maintenance – with our toolbox talks feature, a report is automatically generated recording the attendance of all workers on-site. Not to mention, all employee health and training records can be stored in our app too.
